Careers: Nurse Quality Improvement Specialist Wound Care (Nursing Home)

Key Responsibilities:

The Nurse Quality Improvement (QI) Specialist participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of QI projects. This role assists facilities to establish standards of care specifically related to wound care and other areas to meet patient needs. He/she would establish training programs to enhance clinical expertise in the long-term facility. The Nurse QI Specialist recruits healthcare providers to participate in QI projects and provides on-site technical assistance including, but not limited to: guidance in development of QI plans; best practice information/change packages; education on the use of data to facilitate QI; and facilitation of communication and/or collaboration across providers. This position requires development of educational/informational programs and materials designed to educate providers and stakeholders about Healthcare Quality Strategies, Inc.’s, QI projects.


Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Education

Knowledge of:

  • Item:    
  • Long-term care facility, including standard work processes, policies, and procedures
  • Item:    
  • QI tools and techniques
  • Item:    
  • Principles of adult education
  • Item:    
  • Can be documented that wound care has been a component of the nurse’s duties for at least 2 years out of the last 5 years

Experience in:

  • Establishing standards of care, competencies, policies and procedures in quality and effective wound care for all clinical staff
  • Item:    
  • Design, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare QI projects
  • Item:    
  • Providing wound care training to healthcare staff

Skills requirements include:

  • Managing projects utilizing traditional project management systems and processes
  • Item:    
  • Developing and giving effective presentations to large and small audiences
  • Item:    
  • Developing effective written communications for targeted internal/external audiences
  • Item:    
  • Managing multiple tasks simultaneously and meeting established deadlines

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member

  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer)

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Educational background:

  • Item:    
  • Registered Nurse in New Jersey and/or BSN
  • Item:    
  • Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing in long-term care facility with at least 2 years out of the last 5 years that include wound care duties
